The Growing Up Chester capital campaign has received its first major gift — a $20,000 donation from Wes Neustel.
Wes’ love of Chester Bowl goes back to the days when he was a ski jumper at Chester Bowl in the 1930s. He would walk from the original Central High School to Chester Bowl each day after school to ski jump. He decided to give to the capital campaign in honor of “the fun I used to have up here at Chester Bowl. So it goes back to that time in my life.”
Wes, the Neustel family and their business, The Ski Hut, have been intertwined with Chester Bowl for decades. “When the alpine program got going here … I was out looking for sponsors. Wes [was one of] the first people to come on board to be [a] sponsor,” recalled Thom Storm, former executive director of Chester Bowl. “The Ski Hut races [at Chester Bowl] are approaching 40 years now. So, Wes was so supportive right from the very beginning.”
This donation counts toward the $1.8-2 million fundraising goal to renovate and expand the Thom Storm Chalet.
“We are grateful for the support of Wes and the Neustel family,” said Dave Schaeffer, executive director of the Chester Bowl Improvement Club. “Wes’ contribution brings us closer to our goal of an expanded, accessible Thom Storm Chalet.”
