Karl Harkins was a Chester Bowl kid, and he spent his childhood playing in Chester Park and in participating in Chester Bowl programming with his family. Karl passed away one year ago, on March, 22, 2023, at the age of 37.
The whole Harkins family has a deep history at Chester Bowl. Karl’s father, Ken Harkins, grew up at Chester Bowl and became a US Ski Team ski jumper. All three children, which also includes Karl’s sisters Liisa and Siri, grew up participating in Chester Bowl programs, and spent time in Chester Bowl on an almost daily basis. Karl was both a skier and a snowboarder.
We were honored that his family chose Chester Bowl as a beneficiary of memorial donations for Karl. Together, his friends and family donated $6,300 to Growing Up Chester in Karl’s memory. These gifts will ensure that Chester Bowl can renovate and expand the Thom Storm so that future generations can have the same opportunities at Chester Bowl as their family did. We are so grateful to the Harkins family for choosing Chester Bowl in their time of loss.
If you are inspired to give in Karl’s memory, you can do so with the “Donate” button, or by mailing a check to Chester Bowl, 1801 East Skyline Parkway, Duluth, MN 55812. Please note that the donation is in memory of Karl Harkins.
An anonymous donor has donated $50,000 to Growing Up Chester- if we can match it with $50,000 in community donations by April 30th. All donations received by that date would be counted towards that match, allowing your donation to be doubled.
